work in process, work in progress

work in process, work in progress

Galeria Jaqueline Martins is pleased to present work in process, work in progress, a group exhibition bringing together artists from the gallery program as well as invited Brussels based artists.

The exhibition creates connections between individuals from different backgrounds and generations who share a common interest in exploring the intersections between environmental and societal concerns.

Featuring works by: Adriano Amaral, Daniel de Paula, Dudu Santos, Jota Mombaça, Maria Thereza Alves, Nadia Guerroui and Rossella Biscotti. work in process, work in progress highlights the ways these artists mine the expressive potential of their subjects of inquiry to increasingly poetic and unexpected ends. Essentially, through varied strategies, the exhibition plays on notions of duality such as light and darkness, interior and exterior, human and natural, while at the same time testifying to the interconnections and the relationships that exist between the included artists.

The works on view consider the various aspects of process and progress, including the burnout induced contemporary condition of postponing the completion of important projects or assignments until the very last minute, and the notion of perpetual economic progress over the course of modern history, as well as the resulting challenges faced by the environment as a direct consequence of such ideals of productivity, critically encompassing struggles that arise between social classes and that are defined by economic relations based on accumulation, and that finally undermine collective and individual freedoms.

Participating artists present works across a broad spectrum of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation, and together present an expansive range of emotional nuance in an intertwinement of aesthetic research, political activism, personal subjectivities and theoretical analysis, thus fostering an interdisciplinary dialogue in a unique embodiment of the plural and conceptual foundations of the gallery’s program.
