Jos Devriendt, FLOWERS

Jos Devriendt, FLOWERS

Pierre Marie Giraud is pleased to announce a new exhibition by Jos Devriendt, starting on February 1st and running until March 2nd, 2024.

Jos Devriendt is a Belgian designer born in Ostend in 1964. He studied ceramics at the LUCA School of Arts and sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Known for his ceramic lamps that evoke strangely sophisticated mushrooms, Devriendt leaves no one indifferent. His works draw inspiration from a late surrealistic concept, creating poetic pieces that demand evident craftsmanship and a talent for color.

After exploring form, Devriendt experiments with colors to alter the sense of shape. He creates a color palette like a painter, guided primarily by his intuition.

Jos studies, like a scientist, the nuances of natural and artificial light. His lamps serve as sculptures in daylight and as luminous objects once night falls. Through chiaroscuro effects, Devriendt creates lamps and objects that play with natural and artificial light.

The theme of this new exhibition is ‘FLOWERS’,  exploring the solitude of the flower as a metaphor for the fragility and impermanence of the human while seeking to abstract the beauty of the flower. This theme reveals his openness to the outside world and his keen sense of observation of nature. For this exhibition, he has created a combination of different materials such as bronze, ceramics, brass and epoxy. The works will show new forms, new colors, and new stories regarding light; Jos Devriendt is constantly reinventing himself through his art.

Join us at the gallery on Thursday, February 1, for the opening of Jos Devriendt’s exhibition from 5 to 8 PM in the presence of the artist.
